The air passenger traffic in Uttar Pradesh has posted a stupendous growth of 60 percent in the last 5-6 years.
UP air passenger traffic increased from nearly 6 million in the financial year 2016-17 to touch 9.6 million in 2022-23.
Improved air connectivity and the growing number of airports across India are boosting the domestic growth of air travel.
According to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (#DGCA), passengers carried by domestic airlines during Jan-Nov 2023 stood at 138 million against 110 million during the corresponding period of previous year, thereby registering annual growth of 25 percent.
In the last three years, UP clocked a growth of 30 percent in terms of air passenger traffic, UP chief minister #YogiAdityanath said today after virtually launching Indigo Airlines’ direct air service between #Ayodhya and Ahmedabad.
Now, Ayodhya is directly connected with New Delhi and Ahmedabad. Starting January 15, the temple town will get a direct flight services to-and-fro #Mumbai.
Earlier, Ayodhya had to be content with a small airstrip, but the Maharishi Valmiki International Airport, which was inaugurated last month by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has firmly put the temple town on the air tourism map.
Meanwhile, union #aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said there were 700 aircraft movements per week in UP in 2014, but the number has now gone up to 1,654 aircraft per week.
He announced air services will soon commence in Aligarh, Azamgarh, Chitrakoot and Shravasti too.
