Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is known to publically acknowledge the contribution of women in society, on Tuesday reiterated his stand.

Addressing a public meeting at Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh, Modi lauded the government steps to empower women.

“I am delighted to see the growing confidence of women in UP,” he said. The event saw Modi and UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath address female beneficiaries of government schemes.

Meanwhile, the PM transferred Rs 20 crore to 101,000 beneficiaries under the Mukhya Mantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana. Rs 1,000 crore was transferred to the accounts of 160,000 women self help groups (SHG).

Furthermore, Modi laid foundation of 202 Supplementary Nutrition Manufacturing Units. He transferred Rs 4,000 as first month’s stipend to the account of 20,000 Business Correspondent-Sakhis (BC-Sakhis).

“The banking sakhis are doing a great job to bring banks at the rural populace doorsteps. They are responsible for transactions worth Rs 75,000 crore,” he claimed.

He noted the central ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign has helped check female foeticide to balance the ratio of male and female population.

Moreover, the PM pointed out, “women did not receive their rights as well as safety and honour that they deserve.”

“We have ensured that houses under PM Awas Yojana are allotted in the name of female members. In UP, 2.5 million of 3 million beneficiaries are women,” he added.

Modi wants innovation as hallmark of New India

Beside, 70 percent beneficiaries of the Mudra Scheme are women. Modi said 700 fast track courts are dispensing justice to rape victims.

Meanwhile, Yogi too addressed the public meeting. Ahead of the 2022 UP polls, the Modi-Yogi duo are touring the different assembly segments.

Interestingly, UP is the key state for the political parties to consolidate their position at the national level.
