To empower women and augment rural income, the Uttar Pradesh government will prepare almost 3 million women as micro agri-preneurs and self-employed earners.
The aim is to increase their annual earning capacity of these women associated with state self help groups (SHG) to Rs 100,000 in due course.
The various agricultural and allied activities under this roadmap would comprise farming, rural banking correspondents, poultry, dairy, farmer producer organisation (FPO), livestock, fisheries etc.
The state will also facilitate women self employment and setting up of agri micro enterprises to increase income and spur rural empowerment.
So far, women SHGs comprising 60,000 members are already engaged in growing improved varieties of sugarcane seeds in UP.
The UP State Rural Livelihood Mission (UPSRLM) along with the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) will chart a blueprint in this regard.
At present, about a million women SHG members in UP already have an annual income of more than Rs 100,000.
The government supports SHGs for livelihoods collectives and invests in capacity building in different domains viz. skills, tools, finance and collectivization to enable them to participate in the country’s economic growth.
