UP government will promote Ramgarh Taal in Gorakhpur as a domestic hub of the water sport.Rowing

In wake of the success of rowing competition held under the aegis of recent Khelo India University Games (KIUG), the Uttar Pradesh government has affirmed to promote Ramgarh Taal in Gorakhpur as a domestic hub of the water sport.

The objective is to develop Ramgarh Taal as a prominent venue for organising rowing national camps as well as host international-level rowing competitions in Gorakhpur, the pocket borough of chief minister Yogi Adityanath.

Rowing players from all over the country will receive training at a world class training academy to be set up at Ramgarh Taal to prepare them for national and international competitions.

Sources said 20 boats of different competitive categories are being imported from Germany for the training of rowing players.

UP sports department had organised the rowing competition at Ramgarh Taal as part of KIUG. The rowing competitions were held during May 27-31, 2023.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government has built a world-class Water Sports Complex near the Taal (lake) at a cost of Rs 45 crore to nurture the water sport.

UP additional chief secretary, sports and youth welfare, Navneet Sehgal said in collaboration with the Rowing Federation of India, a national camp for rowing will soon be organised at Ramgarh Taal Water Sports Complex.
