To promote industry-academia collaboration, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has unveiled the state-of-the-art phase I building of its Research and Technology Park known as Technopark@IITK.
On the occasion, Prof Abhay Karandikar, Secretary, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, envisioned Technopark as a pivotal hub for industry-academia collaborations to develop cutting-edge technologies.
Interestingly, Karandikar had previously laid the foundation of the building during his tenure as the IIT Kanpur Director.
Meanwhile, Awanish Awasthi, a retired IAS officer and currently an advisor to Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath, discussed upcoming government initiatives, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector, aimed at bolstering IIT Kanpur’s role as a vibrant industrial hub.
Prof Amarendra Singh, Professor-in-Charge, Technopark@iitk, highlighted the vision and different modes of industrial collaboration, and the role of breakthrough researches at IIT Kanpur in attracting R&D companies such as Laurus Labs, TVM Signalling and Transportation Systems, JK Cement etc to the campus.
A workshop on ‘Industry-Academia Collaborations: Challenges and Opportunities’ was also held to mark the event.
