In a unique initiative, the bicameral Uttar Pradesh legislature will observe a women-only session on September 22.

During the ongoing monsoon session of the UP legislature, which comprises two houses viz. Vidhan Parishad (Upper House) and Vidhan Sabha (Lower House), only women legislators would be allowed to speak and express their opinions on an array of issues.

Meanwhile, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath has written to all the women state legislators ahead of the historic occasion talking about ‘Mission Shakti’ scheme of the government and its impact on women folks.

Reaffirming his commitment to ensuring the security, dignity, and self-reliance of women, the CM provided comprehensive information about the efforts made by his government in this regard and the positive outcome achieved so far.

“Under Mission Shakti, the perception about UP has changed throughout the world due to the efficient implementation of policies and initiatives of the central and the state governments relating to women empowerment. The Uttar Pradesh government has put a lot of effort towards empowering women over the past five and a half years while also assuring their safety and dignity,” he noted.

Connecting women on a massive scale to the Mukhyamantri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, the Mukhyamantri Samuhik Vivah Yojana, increasing participation of women in government positions, and involving them in self-employment schemes among others, the government has undertaken several initiatives to make women self-reliant, Yogi underlined.
