The Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 is looking to invest Rs 7,500 crore to position Uttar Pradesh as a global textile hub.

This is estimated to generate half million job opportunities in the domestic textile landscape in the next five years. According to projections, about 70 employment opportunities are created with every crore invested in the textile industry.

The chief minister has already tasked officials with formulating a new textile policy to operate powerloom units with solar energy in the state.

The UP textile department plans to set up 115 export-oriented textile units at an investment of Rs 3,000 crore at the proposed Apparel Park in Noida.

Besides, the department aims at establishing five new apparel and textile parks in public private partnership (PPP) mode by September 2026. The land is expected to be identified and the bidding process undertaken soon.

The state seeks to build handloom clusters under National Handloom Development Programme and commission as many as 80 projects by February 2027. The department will hammer out a new textile policy by June 2022 and attract private investments to the tune of Rs 1,000 crore in five years.

Meanwhile, the department will sign agreements with ecommerce platforms viz. Amazon and Flipkart to boost the sale of handloom and handicraft products. It will also entail imparting training to the state artisans to leverage the power of ecommerce for marketing.
