Terming Uttar Pradesh as the driving force of New India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday launched projects worth more than Rs 80,000 crore in the state.

Inaugurating the 3rd groundbreaking ceremony to launch industrial and infrastructure projects in Lucknow, Modi observed UP has the potential to give momentum to India’s growth story in the 21st century.

“Uttar Pradesh will become a big driving force for the country. It is blessed with hardworking youth and comprises more than 16 percent of India’s consumer base. It has a large MSME sector and the presence of different seasons to cater different agri product…no one can stop its speedy development,” he added.

A galaxy of top industrialists including Gautam Adani, Kumar Mangalam Birla, Niranjan Hiranandani among others were present, apart from UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath and defence minister Rajnath Singh, who is also the Lucknow Member of Parliament (MP).

Meanwhile, Modi said the prevailing global circumstances had thrown up an array of new opportunities for India to surge ahead.

“The world is searing for a trusted partner and only India has the capacity to rise up to the occasion. Not only, the global community has seen India’s potential but applauded our performance even during the pandemic,” he noted.

He asserted that India was among the fasted growing major economies in the world and the third largest energy consumer.

“Last year, India attracted nearly $84 billion in foreign direct investment (FDI) while our merchandise exports touched $417 billion or nearly Rs 30 trillion, which is a record,” the PM said.

He said as a nation, it was time for making a combine effort by all the stakeholders and taking long term decisions for greater socioeconomic benefits.

Meanwhile, Modi exhorted industry to invest in the domestic agriculture value chain especially in the periphery of Ganga river.

“We have decided to promote chemical free organic farming within the 5 km radius of Ganga. The river traverses about 1,100 km spanning 25-30 districts in UP. It is a golden opportunity to invest in agriculture,” he added.

The various projects totalling Rs 80,000 crore pertain to different sectors such as tourism, data centre, manufacturing, MSME, one district one product (ODOP), real estate, chemicals, food processing, IT and electronics, energy etc.

Modi said these projects will create jobs for the state’s youth, who combine the attributes of diligence, wisdom, skill, dedication and versatility.

“Your presence here shows your trust in the growth story of India and UP. The youth will derive the maxim benefit from these projects,” Modi said.

The meeting was also addressed by Yogi, Rajnath Singh, Adani, Birla, Hiranandani etc.

Earlier, projects worth Rs 1.25 trillion have already been launched at the previous two groundbreaking ceremonies. The Yogi Adityanath government 1.0 (2017-22) had garnered investment proposals totalling Rs 4.68 trillion at the mega 2018 Summit.

Yogi said projects worth Rs 3 trillion had either been completed or the work was already in progress and at different stages across the 75 districts.
