The ambitious BC Sakhi scheme has empowered rural women and transformed banking in Uttar Pradesh by bringing financial services to the villagers’ doorsteps.
Under the scheme, nearly 50,192 women have been trained to deliver doorstep banking in the state.
Of these, about 39,561 are actively serving villages, thus boosting both financial access and women’s employment.
These women have collectively facilitated transactions worth Rs 31,626 crore, earning a combined commission of Rs 85.81 crore.
The scheme, introduced under the leadership of UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, aims to empower women by providing them with sustainable livelihoods while ensuring last-mile banking access in underserved rural communities.
Eligible candidates, at least Class 10 passout and computer literate, are selected and trained under the scheme.
The program is being implemented in collaboration with Bank of Baroda, UCO Bank and UPICON.
This scheme has made banking easier in the hinterland by reducing the need to travel to distant banks and cutting down related expenses.
At the same time, it has given women a respectful means of earning. It is proving to be a strong step towards building a self-reliant UP.
The biggest beneficiaries of the scheme are rural bank customers, who now enjoy easy access to banking services at their doorstep.
