Uttar Pradesh Tourism has partnered with travel and tour aggregator MakeMyTrip to promote tourism in the state.

The two organisations signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 in Lucknow yesterday.

MakeMyTrip will work as a strategic partner with UP providing insights on consumer trends, tourist preferences and supply-side information, which will aid the state tourism department in future policy-making.

Mukesh Kumar Meshram, UP principal secretary, tourism and culture, said the state has immense potential for tourism and MakeMyTrip will be a partner in realising this potential.

“Travelers search for various information on the internet before and during trips. Search engines reveal whether a tourist’s interest leans towards eco-tourism, adventure tourism, spiritual tourism, etc. MakeMyTrip will prove to be helpful in this regard,” he noted.

MakeMyTrip’s co-founder and Group CEO, Rajesh Magow said the idea is to collaborate with UP Tourism leveraging insights and supply depth of hotels and homestays to help grow tourism in the state.

UP holds a prominent place in India’s spiritual landscape. The state is home to numerous religious sites that attract devotees from around the world.

Destinations like Varanasi, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Mathura and Vrindavan have been significant attractions for tourists. Since the consecration ceremony of the Lord Ram Temple in Ayodhya, the number of spiritual tourists in UP has gone up substantially.
