Owing to the rapid infrastructure development in Uttar Pradesh, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today organised a conference on roads and highways to discuss the technicalities, possibilities, opportunities and way forward in the sector.

V K Singh, technical advisor to UP PWD minister, suggested India should move from the conventional ways of laying roads to new method in terms of technology for long term maintenance and recycling of the roads infra.

Dharamveer Singh, Professor – Transportation Systems Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, IIT Bombay said a lot of technological advancement has taken place in the road sector to match the international standard, yet there is still lot of scope for upgradation.

Smita Agarwal, Chairperson of the CII UP State Council, highlighted the significant impact of UP’s extensive expressway network on the state’s economic development.

Constructed under the Bharatmala project, these expressways have strengthened UP’s road infra and played a crucial role in the socioeconomic development of the country.

They facilitate an efficient movement of freight and passengers, while improving access to markets, thereby contributing to overall growth, she observed.

Manoj Gupta, past chairman, CII UP State Council and Chairman and Managing Director, ART Thermosets, said extensive use of technologies like emulsion treated aggregate and micro surfacing in road construction has saved cost and cut down on carbon emission.

He also claimed that many other states are now emulating the road technologies followed in UP under the current Yogi Adityanath government.
