To promote the safety and self-reliance of women and girls, Uttar Pradesh will launch the 5th phase of ‘Mission Shakti’ in October 2024.
Running until May 2025, this phase will witness a million girls get self-defence and life skills training.
Career counselling sessions will also be conducted in 167 schools, and sanitary pads distributed to more than 36,700 girls to support their health and ensure regular school attendance.
It will also focus on awareness about critical issues such as education and hygiene. This phase of Mission Shakti represents a significant step towards empowering women and girls, and fostering positive societal change.
Led by principals and teachers, the students will be educated on topics such as child rights, domestic violence, sexual abuse, molestation, and the concept of good touch and bad touch.
Through rallies and activities, they will receive information on helpline numbers and the dangers of child marriage. There will be a special focus on menstrual hygiene and climate change.
During April-May 2025, the children will be made aware of their legal rights viz. right to education, POCSO Act, and laws concerning child marriage and domestic violence.
