The Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 is diversifying its basket of procurement by increasing the number of agricultural produce especially cash crops to augment farm income.

The state has begun preparations to procure moong and groundnut at Minimum Support Price (MSP) during the Zaid season to boost the income of farmers.

While moong will be procured in all 75 districts of UP, the groundnut procurement will take place in 15 districts.

The procurement of moong and groundnut will continue until September 2 and August 29 respectively.

Meanwhil, the MSP has been set at Rs 8,682 per quintal for moong and Rs 6,783 per quintal for groundnut, a goverment official said.

The Yogi government has set a procurement target of 34,720 tonnes of moong and 50,750 tonnes of groundnut for the Zaid season.

NAFED and NCCF have been tasked with the proposed procurement, with support from state agencies viz. UPPCU, UPPCF and UPSS.

Since agriculture is the primary source of livelihood in UP, the state government is boosting the rural income through a multipronged strategy to incentivise farming and catalyse the allied activities.
