Making big strides in women empowerment, the Yogi Adityanath government is vigorously pushing the overarching ‘Lakhpati Didi Yojana’ in Uttar Pradesh.
The state aims at making almost 2.9 million women self-help group (SHG) members ‘lakhpatis’ (earning over Rs 1 lakh annually) within the next three years.
So far, the income records of almost 1.33 million SHG members have been updated in the livelihood register, with 137,000 women already achieving the milestone of becoming lakhpatis.
Women are being connected to at least two or more income sources through coordination with various departments like agriculture, dairy development, silk production, and fisheries under the ambitious scheme.
The government is also boosting women’s income by providing subsidies for initiatives such as custom hiring centres, farm machinery banks, poly houses/net houses, silk production, and fisheries.
To support the programme, about 4,275 community resource persons have been trained and appointed. These trained individuals offer continuous guidance and help women explore new livelihood opportunities, ensuring sustainable growth and financial independence.
The Yogi government has made special efforts to empower women through financial inclusion.
Under the Pradhan Mantri SVANidhi Scheme, over 200,000 women have benefited, while 2,510 fair price shops have been allocated to women SHGs, boosting their income and providing stable economic support to their families.
For social security of women, 3.27 million beneficiaries have been covered under the Nirashrit Mahila Pension Scheme.
Additionally, 6 million mothers receive support through the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana. These schemes are proving effective in improving women’s health, education, and economic security.
The UP State Rural Livelihood Mission has connected over 9.5 million women 8.55 million SHGs.
By leveraging village organisations and cluster-level federations, the program is fostering collective empowerment among rural women, enabling them to achieve greater self-reliance and financial stability.
Moreover, under the Mukhyamnatri Kanya Sumangala Yojana, almost 2 million beneficiaries have received assistance.
