To make India self-reliant in defence ware, the Yogi Adityanath government is developing world-class infrastructure in the Uttar Pradesh Defense Industrial Corridor (UPDIC) comprising six nodes.
The state will invest Rs 950 crore in creating the basic infra including high-quality roads, electricity, water, sewer, and security systems for the mega project.
The six nodes are Aligarh, Kanpur, Jhansi, Lucknow, Jhansi and Chitrakoot.
According to nodal agency UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA), projects worth Rs 187 crore have been completed so far, while works exceeding Rs 537 crore are currently underway.
UPDIC is set to play a crucial role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India self-reliant in defence production with two defence corridors coming up in UP and Tamil Nadu (Chennai) respectively.
So far, projects totalling Rs 25,000 crore have been received for UPDIC spanning 154 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs).
Over 1,600 hectares of land has been acquired, with more than 700 hectares allotted to 42 industrial groups. These groups are investing around Rs 8,000 crore in the corridor.
