To boost electric mobility, Uttar Pradesh has announced to restart the tender process for procuring 5,000 e-buses to be deployed across the state.
The tender process was initiated in March 2024 was delayed due to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. It will now resume on June 14, a state government spokesperson said.
The tendering will be undertaken by the UP State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) to make the transport services more accessible to public.
With UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath looking to expedite projects stalled due to the recent polls, several transport projects including the construction and renovation of 12 bus terminals, as well as transforming terminals into commercial complexes, have also come under focus.
The plan includes construction of new terminals and the makeover of bus stands in Agra, Gorakhpur, Mirzapur, Bulandshahr, Mathura, Kanpur, Varanasi etc.
As part of a long-term strategy to expand the state’s transport network, the state plans to deploy a new fleet of 50,000 buses to replace the old fleet and introduce modern buses on the roads.
