To promote Uttar Pradesh as a global tourism hotspot, the Yogi Adityanath government is reviving the state’s heritage properties, restoring their historic grandeur and creating new economic opportunities.
In this context, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was yesterday signed between the UP tourism department, Golden Triangle Fort and Palace Private Limited to develop Roshan-ud-Daulah and Chhatar Manzil properties in Lucknow, and Chunar Fort in Mirzapur.
These heritage sites will be developed into luxury heritage hotels, following the successful model of Suryagarh Jaisalmer, Rajasthan.
UP tourism and culture minister Jaiveer Singh said the three properties have been given to Golden Triangle, Rajasthan, under the public private parternship (PPP0 model.
The company’s Suryagarh Collection, which operates Suryagarh Jaisalmer, Narendra Bhawan Bikaner and Mary Budden Estate Binsar, will design, develop and manage these heritage hotels.
A key focus will be on preserving the original architectural essence while integrating innovative restoration techniques.
The revival process will be guided by historical research, folklore, traditional construction materials, and modern innovations to maintain authenticity.
“The initiative is expected to significantly enhance heritage tourism and position Uttar Pradesh as a prime destination for luxury heritage stays and destination weddings,” he added.
It will generate employment opportunities for local communities, prioritising hiring locals for property development and operations.
The initiative will also promote One District One Product (ODOP) items and curate experiential tourism, highlighting local traditions, cuisine, festivals, and craftsmanship.
One village near each heritage property will be adopted and revitalized in a step towards holistic development.
Singh said UP is home to numerous forts, palaces, and havelis, and the government aims to make them tourist attractions while preserving their historic value.
“Under the PPP model, the state’s heritage tourism sector is witnessing unprecedented growth, supported by investor-friendly policies that facilitate the development of forts, palaces, haunted sites, and mansions,” he noted.
With this transformative approach, UP is set to emerge as a premier heritage tourism hub, blending history with world-class hospitality, he noted.
