The Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 today tabled a Supplementary Budget of more than Rs 17,865 crore in the Uttar Pradesh assembly.

The 2nd Supplementary Budget, presented by UP finance minister Suresh Khanna, for the current financial year 2024-25 comprises new projects worth Rs 790 crore.

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) dispensation had tabled the first Supplementary Budget of Rs 12,210 crore in the UP legislature on July 30, 2024, following the UP Annual Budget 2024-25 of Rs 7.36 trillion tabled on Feb 5, 2024.

Ergo, UP’s total Budget size for the current fiscal year has burgeoned to more than Rs 7.66 trillion.

“The UP government accords top priority to development. As such, whenever required, a supplementary budget is tabled in the legislature,” Khanna said in the House.

Meanwhile, the energy department accounted for the lion’s share of the allocations of more than Rs 8,587 crore.

The finance and family welfare department have been provided with over Rs 2,438 crore and Rs 1,592 crore respectively.

Similarly, animal husbandry and PWD have been allocated Rs 1,001 crore and Rs 805 crore respectively in the supplementary budget.

Meanwhile, primary education, information and panchayati raj departments have received Rs 515 crore, Rs 505 crore and Rs 454 crore respectively.

Moreover, other departments including tourism, industrial development, mining, food, home, urban development, justice, transport, forest etc have been allocated different sums for their ongoing and new projects.

Earlier in the day, the Yogi cabinet had approved the supplementary budgetary grants before it was tabled in the state legislature.

A supplementary Budget is tabled to get legislative approval for additional or sudden expenses during the course of a financial year for ongoing and new government projects.

In recent years, the Yogi government has been generously allocating funds to infrastructure, agriculture, social, rural development, industry and tourism sectors to bolster its roadmap to achieving the ambitious $trillion economy goal.
