The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government has tabled in the Uttar Pradesh legislature a Supplementary Budget 2024-25 of more than Rs 12,209 crore.

The Supplementary Budget comprises the capital and revenue heads of nearly Rs 7,982 crore and Rs 4,227 crore respectively.

Since the UP government’s Annual Budget 2024-25, tabled on Feb 5, 2024, amounted to nearly Rs 7.36 trillion, the state’s budget size, together with today’s Supplementary Budget, will burgeon to more than Rs 7.48 trillion for the current financial year.

A supplementary Budget is tabled to get legislative approval for additional or sudden expenses during the course of a financial year for ongoing and new government projects.

In recent years, the Yogi government has been generously allocating funds to an array of sectors viz. infrastructure, agriculture, social, rural development, industry etc to bolster its roadmap to achieving the ambitious $trillion economy goal by 2027.

The UP Supplementary Budget 2024-25 was tabled yesterday in the state legislature by finance minister Suresh Khanna on the second day of the ongoing monsoon session.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government has allocated a lion’s share of Rs 7,500 crore for industrial development projects in the Supplementary Budget. The allocation corresponds to nearly 62 percent of the Supplementary Budget size tabled in the state legislature.

It has allocated funds for all important sectors namely infrastructure, tourism, agriculture, education, health, forest, industrial, sports, sugarcane, energy, transport, rural development etc.

The state energy and transport departments have been allocated about Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 1,000 crore respectively.

The state urban development department has been granted a budget of Rs 600 crore for the projects under the Amrut Yojana, while Rs 200 crore has been provided to the skills development department.

The employment mission and the secondary education department are set to receive an additional allocation of nearly Rs 50 crore and Rs 95 crore respectively.
