Uttar Pradesh has set a new benchmark by establishing 7,713 cow shelters, providing care to more than 1.6 million stray cattle.
These efforts reflect not only administrative will but also a deep-rooted reverence for the cow, reinforcing UP’s leadership in animal welfare under the leadership of chief minister Yogi Adityanath, a senior government official said.
Further, the Mukhyamantri Sahbhagita Yojana has empowered local farmers and livestock keepers.
Through the scheme, more than 237,000 cattle have been handed over to willing individuals, helping them contribute to animal welfare while also boosting the rural economy through sustainable livestock rearing.
Alongside, the government has launched a large-scale vaccination campaign to protect the health of animals.
Under this campaign, about 145 million animals have been vaccinated, including 19.2 million vaccinated against lumpy skin disease.
In addition, a toll-free helpline (1962) has been set up to provide free veterinary support.
Other programs like the Mukhyamantri Pragatisheel Pashupalak Protsahan Yojana and the Swadeshi Govansh Sanvardhan Yojana have shown new paths to livestock farmers.
Under the Nandini Krishak Samriddhi Yojana, the state government provides a 50 percent subsidy for setting up dairy units.
Furthermore, through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), cow shelters receive Rs 1,500 per month per animal (Rs 50 per day) to ensure proper care.
These initiatives have helped boost the income of livestock-rearing families and promoted self-reliance in rural areas.
