Uttar Pradesh has set up nearly 4,000 paddy procurement centres for the current kharif marketing season commencing on October 1.
The minimum support price (MSP) for the cash crop of paddy is Rs 2,300 per quintal (100 kg), with paddy grade A priced at Rs 2,320 per quintal.
The procurement process starts typically from the Western UP region and gradually covers the Eastern UP districts.
The Yogi Adityanath government is going an extra mile to keep the farmers in good humour ahead of the coming UP assembly bypolls.
The state farmers will also receive a reimbursement of Rs 20 per quintal for unloading, sieving and cleaning of the paddy crop.
The purchase centers have been established by the UP food and civil supplies department apart from other purchasing agencies including the Food Corporation of India (FCI).
According to the agriculture department, the UP paddy acreage for the kharif marketing year 2024-25 is nearly 6.124 million hectares, with an estimated production of 26/554 million tonnes. The average yield is projected to be around 43.36 quintals per hectare.
