Uttar Pradesh has made significant strides in food safety and ease of doing business, with food licenses and registrations surging over 200% in recent years.

Today, UP has more than 116,000 active food licenses and 743,000 registrations, reflecting the growing food sector and the administration’s commitment to safety and efficiency.

The Food Safety and Drug Administration department is actively working to streamline operations while maintaining stringent food safety standards.

The push by chief minister Yogi Adityanath for an investor and business friendly ecosystem through the ‘Ease of Doing Business’ policy has significantly boosted the food and restaurant sector.

Compared to 2016-17, registrations for food units with turnover of up to Rs 12 lakh have jumped by 271% from 199,711 to 743,767 now.

Likewise, licenses for businesses with turnover between Rs 12 lakh and Rs 30 crore have increased from 36,984 to 116,316 during the same period.

Moreover, the Yogi government has simplified the licensing and registration process to facilitate this growth.

The department allowed entrepreneurs to complete applications online through the Food Safety Connection App (FoSCoS Portal), with most applications, excluding high-risk businesses, being processed within 24 hours.

Additionally, hawkers and Anganwadi centers are offered five-year registrations free of cost.

The FoSCoS portal ensures a paperless, time-efficient licensing process and serves as a platform for swift redressal of food safety related complaints.

The state establishes hi-tech Food and Drug Analysis Laboratories to further strengthen enforcement in every division.

In addition, 36 mobile food laboratories are deployed across the state to monitor and test food quality, helping to curb adulteration and ensure public health.
