Driven by the vision of transforming Uttar Pradesh as a development leader, Uttar Pradesh has emerged as a national model in both employment generation and promotion of self-employment.
The Yogi Adityanath government has launched flagship schemes to empower the youth to launch their own ventures, thus fueling self-reliance and generating broader employment.
A key pillar of this framework is the MUttar Pradesh Mukhyamantri Yuva Swarojgar Yojana (UPMYSY), a scheme that reflects Yogi’s commitment to youth empowerment.
Since its launch in 2018-19, the scheme has generated employment for over 250,000 youth.
It specifically targets educated youth between 18 and 40, encouraging them to pursue self-employment.
Under the UPMYSY, the state provides financial assistance of up to Rs 25 lakh to eligible youth for starting their businesses.
Loans are provided at concessional interest rates — lower than market rates — and can be used for purchasing plant and machinery, raw materials and other essentials.
Applicants must be permanent residents of UP, have passed at least high school and should not be bank defaulters.
So far, over 31,300 applications have been approved, with the government disbursing almost Rs 760 crore as margin money to support aspiring entrepreneurs.
This initiative has significantly promoted small and medium-sized enterprises in UP, marking a shift towards sustainable and grassroots economic development.
To scale its impact further, the Yogi government is preparing to introduce significant reforms to the scheme.
Proposed amendments include raising the maximum project cost limit by up to four times, offering interest-free loans and rebranding the scheme under the CM Yuva Yojana.
These changes are under review and expected to be approved soon, potentially broadening the scheme’s reach and deepening its impact on youth entrepreneurship in UP.
