Bolstering the clean energy roadmap, Uttar Pradesh plans to save an estimated Rs 1 trillion in conventional energy costs by integrating water projects with solar power.

Currently, Jal Jeevan Mission has a portfolio of 41,000 projects in UP.

The more than 33,000 solar energy-based groundwater schemes in UP are projected to save the exchequer Rs 1 trillion during their lifecycle by cutting down on energy bills.

These projects will also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1.3 million tonnes annually owing to lower traditional power supply.

In addition to cost savings, the solar energy-based schemes are expected to help UP earn 39 million carbon credits over 30 years, showcasing UP’s commitment to sustainability.

The adoption of solar energy-based schemes is reducing energy costs and contributing to the state’s transformation into a green state.

Meanwhile, the Yogi Adityanath government is also promoting the setting up of microgrids by the private sector companies in the rural areas.

Microgrids offer a ‘decentralised’ approach to energy distribution in the rural areas where uninterrupted power supply is still a challenge. They integrate solar, wind, and other renewable energy sources, thus reducing dependence on fossil fuels.

Moreover, UP is planning to set up floating solar power plants in partnership with public sector energy players. By 2027, the state government targets solar power generation of 14,000 MW.

Plans are afoot to establish floating solar projects across seven reservoirs in partnership with NTPC, Tehri Hydro Development Corporation (THDC) and Satluj Jal Vidyut Nigam (SJVN).

Besides, the Yogi government has set a target of a million tonne production capacity per year of green hydrogen/green ammonia by 2029.
