Uttar Pradesh is looking to usher in transformative change to the workers’ lives; moving beyond mere announcements to on-ground action.

Data from the UP Labour Department and Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (BOCWWB) highlight effective implementation of schemes focused on education, maternity, marriage, healthcare and housing — thus delivering direct and tangible benefits to workers.

According to the UP Labour and Employment Department, more than half-million workers benefited from BOCWWB schemes in 2024–25, with ₹710.96 crore spent.

In 2025–26 so far, 10,221 workers have received benefits amounting to ₹42.46 crore. The schemes have also significantly advanced women’s empowerment, marking a clear improvement since 2017.

The recently released Women’s Economic Empowerment Index highlights the progress, showing a substantial rise in female participation in the labour force, from just 14% in 2017 to 36% in 2024.

In light of this, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed to further enhance the provisions for women within welfare schemes.

Among the major initiatives run by the Board, the Kanya Vivaah Sahayata Yojana has provided financial assistance totaling ₹440 crore for the weddings of 84,891 daughters of labourers.

Likewise, under the Matritva, Shishu Evam Baalika Madad Yojana, ₹364 crore has been disbursed to 1,09,841 women for maternity and child welfare support.

These figures reflect the government’s commitment to recognizing women workers not just as laborers, but as vital pillars of society.

In terms of registrations, 48,822 new workers — including 25,720 women — have been registered so far in 2025–26.

In 2024–25, the number stood at 1,86,380, including 89,441 women. Since the inception of the board, over 1.84 crore workers have been registered, with more than 63 lakh of them being women.

Under the BOCW Act, 4,28,657 establishments have been registered to date. In 2025–26, 7,572 new establishments have been registered so far, while 47,473 were registered in 2024–25.

Cess collection under the Act amounted to ₹1,722 crore in 2024–25 and ₹193.74 crore so far in 2025–26, bringing the cumulative collection to ₹12,584.26 crore—providing a robust financial foundation for effective scheme implementation.

Notably, Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar Shramik Suvidha Kendras will be established in 17 municipal bodies, as well as in Noida and Greater Noida.
