Uttar Pradesh has announced a quota in the allotment of plots near the Yamuna Expressway for the farmers affected by the Jewar International Airport project in Greater Noida.
Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has envisioned developing a new township encompassing a world-class residential and non-residential infrastructure along the Expressway.
About 276 plots measuring 200 square meters each will be allocated in Sector 18 (Pocket 9B).
Of these, 17.5 percent or 48 plots have been reserved for farmers whose land was acquired for YEIDA and the Jewar airport, a senior UP government official said.
Jewar airport is being developed by Swiss major Zurich Airport International (Zurich AG), and is likely to become operational in the next few months.
Earlier, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said Jewar would become India’s most prosperous and developed region in the next 10 years.
Besides, 5 percent of the plots (14 plots) are earmarked for applicants under the Functional Industrial Unit category.
The remaining 77.5 percent or 214 plots are available for the general public.
Recently, YEIDA had received formal approval from the Uttar Pradesh Real Estate Regulatory Authority (UP RERA) to launch this scheme.
The plots will be leased for 90 years. The application process for the scheme, which started on Monday, will continue until May 21.
Under the scheme, the registration fee has been set at Rs 3.50 lakh for SC/ST and Rs 7 lakh for general category applicants.
The cost of each plot is fixed at Rs 35,000 per square meter.
ICICI Bank and the State Bank of India (SBI) have been designated as the scheme’s official banking partners.
In December 2024, Adityanath had announced an almost 40 percent hike in the land acquisition rate for the under-construction Jewar airport.
Against the prevailing land acquisition rate of Rs 3,100 per sq meter, the rate was hiked to Rs 4,300 per sq meter, a hike of 38.7 percent.
The CM also said the state would also facilitate the resettlement of affected farmers, apart from the self-employment and employment opportunities.
So far, nearly 1,334 hectares or roughly 3,300 acres have been acquired for the Jewar airport project.
On December 9, a test flight was conducted at Jewar before the runway is commissioned in the next few months after a series of trails and tests.
Once inaugurated, the first phase of the airport comprising one runway would have the capacity to service 12 million passengers annually.
By 2030, the passenger handling capacity of the airport would be ramped up to 30 million with two runways.
In the second phase, a third runway would be developed over 1,365 hectares, followed by fourth and fifth runways over 1,318 hectares and 735 hectares respectively.
