The highways sector in Uttar Pradesh continues to make big strides with new projects totalling more than Rs 15,000 crore in the proposal stage.

These projects will be undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Kanpur, Bareilly, Barabanki, Bahraich, Agra, Aligarh and Gorakhpur districts.

While the detailed project report (DPR) of some projects is ready, the bidding process is in varying stages for the remaining chunk of projects.

Moreover, the under-construction Lucknow-Kanpur expressway being built by the NHAI is likely to be completed by July 2025.

It will offer a seamless connectivity between the industrial town of Kanpur and the state capital of Lucknow.

The Yogi Adityanath government is investing generously on the infra and roads sector to catalyse the socioeconomic value chain.

Meanwhile, the 594-km Ganga Expressway is expected to be commissioned by March-April 2025. The mega project, costing over Rs 36,000 crore, is being developed by UP Expressway Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA).

Ganga Expressway traverses 12 UP districts viz. Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahar, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj.

UP currently accounts for roughly 47 percent of the country’s composite length of expressways.

Some of the functional UP expressways include Yamuna Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway and Bundelkhand Expressway.
