The Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh has presented its 9th consecutive Annual Budget 2025-26 of more than Rs 8.08 trillion.

Tabled by UP finance minister Suresh Khanna in the Vidhan Sabha yesterday, the Budget size increased by 9.8 percent compared to the Annual Budget 2024-25 of Rs 7.36 trillion.

UP’s fiscal deficit is estimated at Rs 91,400 crore, which is 2.97 per cent of the year’s estimated GSDP; thus taming it much below the mandated Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) norm of less than 3 percent, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath said addressing the media.

The Budget allocates funds towards infrastructure projects with the capex pegged at 20.5 percent.

He exuded confidence the Budget would position UP as the growth engine of India.

To achieve its $trillion economy target, action plans have been drafted for 10 sectors viz. agriculture, infrastructure, industry, IT & electronics, health and family welfare, education, tourism, urban development, financial services, energy and capital investment.

The Budget allocates 22 percent towards infra projects, followed by education 13 percent, agriculture and allied sectors 11 percent, medical and health 6 percent and social security 4 percent.

UP has reported improvement in the quality of expenditure with the capex jumping from 14.8 percent to 19.3 percent of total expenditure during 2018-23.

The Budget allocates Rs 5.83 trillion and Rs 2.25 trillion under revenue expenditure and capital expenditure respectively.
