Lucknow is bracing up to host the 22nd edition of the ‘National Book Fair’ from September 4.

The 11-day Fair will feature leading book publishers and distributors from across India, showcasing latest books, texts and other reading material.

Fair convener Manoj Singh Chandel said Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel will inaugurate the National Book Fair in the state capital on Thursday evening.

More than 120 stalls of 50 reputed publishers will be set up for the book aficionados who flock in large numbers for the much awaited annual event in Lucknow’s literary and cultural calendar.

Meanwhile, the organisers have joined hands with non-profit organisations to create awareness on social issues such as education.

The Fair will feature a series of new book launches and academic discussions by prominent individuals, authors, writers, journalists etc.

Chandel said one of the motives of the National Book Fair is to rekindle the habit of reading among the people, especially youth and children.

He lamented owing to the growing smartphone usage and popular culture, people are slowly losing interest in reading books while libraries were shutting down.
