Lucknow is bracing up to host a mega ‘Start UP Conclave’ being organised by the four labs of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in the Uttar Pradesh capital.

The two-day event will be inaugurated on September 14 by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and union minister of state (independent charge) for Science & Technology, and vice president, CSIR, Dr Jitendra Singh.

The four CSIR labs are National Botanical Research Institute (NBRI), Central Drug Research Institute (CDRI), Indian Institute of Toxicological Research (IITR) and Central Institute of Medicinal & Aromatic Plants (CIMAP).

The conclave is centred on the theme ‘Translating R&D into Start-ups: Innovation for Agriculture, Environment & Health for industries and society’.

The CSIR Start-up Conclave 2025 in Lucknow is the 4th in the series of such initiatives, following the successful editions held earlier at Jammu, Hyderabad & Mumbai, CISR-NBRI director A K Shasany said.

The platform is aimed at fostering start-up culture around CSIR technologies, connecting innovators with industry, and building new opportunities for entrepreneurs across the country.

Dr N Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR & Secretary, DSIR, Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, will also grace the event.

The CSIR Start-up Conclave resonates with the vision of promoting indigenous technologies, nurturing start-ups, and building stronger linkages between science, industry, and society.

The initiative is expected to strengthen the nation’s self-reliance, enhance competitiveness, and create sustainable opportunities for youth and entrepreneurs across the country.

The conclave will bring together scientists, innovators, industry leaders, entrepreneurs, investors, and policymakers on a common platform to strengthen India’s innovation ecosystem.

It will serve as a catalyst for fostering technology-led entrepreneurship, advancing industry-research partnerships, and driving the vision of a Viksit Bharat @2047.

Key Highlights of the Conclave are: signing of technology transfer agreements with industry partners; launch of new products and technologies developed by CSIR Labs; MoU exchanges with industry, academia, and start-ups; and showcasing of innovations from CSIR Lucknow laboratories in areas such as Agri-Nutri Biotech, health care and environment.

This initiative is aligned with flagship programmes of the Government of India such as Start-up India, Make in India, Digital India, and Atmanirbhar Bharat, reinforcing the country’s commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth.

More than 200 farmers/beneficiaries from various clusters of country created under CSIR Aroma & Floriculture Missions are expected to participate in the conclave.

More than 50 startups/entrepreneurs nurtured with CSIR Technologies are expected showcase their products in the conclave.

“CSIR-NBRI is committed to translating plant-based innovations and green technologies into entrepreneurial ventures. Through this conclave, we aim to empower start-ups in floriculture, herbal products, and sustainable agriculture, thereby contributing to a greener economy and livelihood generation,” Shasany said.
