Taking baby steps towards fruition, the under-construction Noida International Airport in Jewar today saw the first aircraft touching down at its runway.
An IndiGo flight was greeted with a ceremonial water cannon salute upon arrival for the trial runs.
The successful landing at the Jewar airport, dubbed to be Asia’s largest aviation hub in the making, marks another milestone for Uttar Pradesh, which now boasts of the highest number of airports in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the airport’s foundation on November 25, 2021.
Thereafter, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made unteempth visits to review the progress to ensure the civil works conformed to the highest quality standards.
Once the airport becomes operational next year, it would open fresh growth avenues for Gautam Buddha Nagar, Aligarh, Bulandshahr, Ghaziabad, Greater Noida and surrounding areas.
Jewar becomes UP’s 5th international airport, joining the ranks of Lucknow, Varanasi, Ayodhya and Kushinagar.
