The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency (UPNEDA) today organised the ‘Clean Energy Summit 2025’ in Lucknow under the theme of ‘Uttar Pradesh: Powering a USD 1 Trillion Economy through Renewable Energy’.
The Summit participants comprised senior policymakers, renewable energy experts, entrepreneurs and investors who deliberated on UP’s clean energy roadmap and its role in driving sustainable economic growth.
In his keynote address, chief guest Narendra Bhooshan, UP additional chief secretary (additional sources of energy) and chairman UPNEDA, said UP has made rapid strides in renewable energy, with policies rapidly advancing to promote solar, bioenergy and other green sources.
He underlined the state aims to provide affordable, reliable and eco-friendly energy to all citizens. “Initiatives like transforming Bundelkhand into a solar hub are boosting energy output, creating jobs and increasing farmers’ incomes.”
He emphasised UP’s focus on skill development, adoption of technologies like AI and battery storage and fostering innovation.
Meanwhile, UP Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) chairman Ashish Goel said UP has among the most competitive electricity tariffs in India, offering a distinct advantage for both industries and emerging sectors such as electric mobility.
“We are working on establishing a comprehensive EV charging ecosystem across the state. Our initiative involves the strategic creation of a land bank in key urban and highway corridors, aimed at enabling the seamless rollout of charging stations,” he informed.
UPNEDA director Inderjit Singh said UP is witnessing a transformative shift in its energy landscape, with renewable energy at the core of this change.
“At UPNEDA, our vision is aligned with the state’s goal of ensuring accessible, affordable and sustainable energy for all. We are aggressively pushing forward with large-scale solar projects, decentralised renewable energy solutions and bioenergy initiatives that not only power homes and industries but also create green jobs and strengthen rural livelihoods,” he added.
Dr Upasana Arora, Chairperson, CII UP & Managing Director, Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals, said UP is emerging as a front-runner in India’s clean energy transition, backed by abundant solar potential, progressive policies and a strong industrial base.
“At CII, discussions and platforms like this offer a vital platform to harness this momentum, bring together key stakeholders, and chart a collaborative roadmap to make UP a national leader in green energy and innovation,” she said.
Vinamra Agarwal, Summit Chairman and Joint Managing Director & CEO Technical Associates Ltd, observed UP presents a compelling opportunity for clean energy investments, driven by a strong policy push, low-cost power and a growing commitment to sustainability.
“With abundant solar and bioenergy potential, and government support through tax incentives and infrastructure facilitation, the state is poised to become a clean energy hub,” he underscored.
He said the CII Clean Energy Summit serves as a timely platform to harness this momentum, unite industry and government, and drive actionable strategies to establish UP as a clean energy powerhouse in India’s transition to net zero.
Sanjay Gupta, Chief Business Officer, Jakson Group, said what sets UP apart is its proactive policy framework, including tax incentives, capital subsidies and investor-friendly regulations.
“These have created an enabling environment for companies like Jakson Group to expand their renewable energy footprint in the region,” he added.
