The premier Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Lucknow has announced the setting up of a dedicated blockchain centre, which will nurture 100 technology startups in Uttar Pradesh in the next five years.

IIM Lucknow’s Enterprise Incubation Centre (IIML-EIC) has established a Centre of Excellence in Blockchain Technology (CoE-BT), supported by the UP startup policy.

In partnership with Microsoft India, the Institute will establish three outreach centers across UP in Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Greater Noida/Meerut to promote blockchain-based innovation.

IIML-EIC, faculty-in-charge, Prof Ashish Dubey said the collaboration will identify new opportunities for innovations, and support new technologies to stay ahead of the curve in the rapidly evolving field of blockchain.

“This collaboration will contribute to the development of innovative solutions in blockchain that will have a significant impact on technological infrastructure,” he noted.

The CoE-BT is positioned as a “ground breaking effort” to identify and support promising startups while promoting entrepreneurship in the rapidly evolving field of blockchain.

It also aligns with the Yogi Adityanath government’s objective to enhance e-governance by ensuring trust, transparency and reliability across various sectors as use cases.

Moreover, it will serve as a technology enabler, offering stakeholders access to shared learning experiences, resources, and a dedicated blockchain platform.

Meanwhile, IIM EIC will lead the training and onboarding of startups, providing support that includes mentorship from over 50 industry and academic experts, industry connections, VC funding, and specialised training programs for students and aspiring entrepreneurs across various sectors with blockchain based applications.

The CoE will act as both a Resource and Technology Development Center, dedicated to advancing the state’s technological capabilities and fostering a thriving ecosystem for blockchain innovation, the Institute said.

IIML EIC is a registered Section 8 (not-for-profit) company established by IIM Lucknow to build a sustainable startup community that fuels innovation, drives economic growth, and creates a better future for all.

By offering a inclusive ecosystem of support, mentorship, and resources, IIML EIC aims to empower entrepreneurs to transform their innovative ideas into successful, impactful ventures.

Established in 1984, IIM Lucknow is the fourth in the prestigious IIM family of management schools to be established in India after IIM Calcutta, IIM Ahmedabad and IIM Bangalore.
