To enrich the legacy of cricket legend Narendra Hirwani, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has announced the construction of a world-class cricket stadium in Gorakhpur.

The announcement aims to bolster the region’s cricket infrastructure and honour Hirwani, one of India’s renowned leg spinners who was named Cricketer of the Year in 1988.

Road and air connectivity will be taken into account before acquiring land for the proposed stadium to be built over approximately 100 acres.

It will be UP’s 4th international-level stadium after Kanpur, Lucknow and Varanasi.

The stadium will benefit not only Gorakhpur but also the sports talents of Purvanchal (Eastern UP), neighbouring Bihar, and even the friendly nation Nepal by offering better training facilities.

Moreover, the stadium is expected to boost sports business, sports tourism and hospitality sector in the Gorakhpur region.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government is also mulling to introduce a new sports policy effective for the next five years.
