Career bureaucrat turned author and motivator Alok Ranjan has expanded his writing portfolio with a contemporary text on the topic of Happiness.

Ranjan launched his latest book ‘Happiness and Wellbeing’ last evening at a function in Lucknow attended by fellow retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers, academicians, economists, journalists, writers, industrialists, industry professionals et al.

The function comprised an invigorating panel discussion to explore the nuances of happiness in our technology driven modern lifestyle amid stress and material concerns.

The panelists included Dr Arvind Mohan, Professor, University of Lucknow; Kiron Chopra, Chairman & Managing Director, Chopra Retec Rubber Products; Chander Prakash, Partner, Universal Booksellers; and Dr Kavita Pathak, Director & Professor, Jaipuria Institute of Management, Lucknow.

In his address, Ranjan reflected, “I have always worked with the happiness and welfare of people in mind, whether through governance, developmental projects, or public policies. This book reflects my experiences and offers actionable frameworks for individuals, organizations, and policymakers to cultivate happiness.”

He guided attendees through the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire, a practical exercise that helped participants evaluate their personal happiness levels.

‘Happiness and Wellbeing’ delves into the multidimensional aspects of happiness, exploring inner joy, workplace well-being, spiritual contentment, and the relationship between happiness and money, health, social relationships, and a spiritual approach to life.

The book examines the intersection of happiness with philosophy and religion, offering a comprehensive guide to living a fulfilled and balanced life.

Other books by Ranjan are ‘Making A Difference – IAS as a Career’, ‘Excellence in Governance’, ‘Ethics for Civil Services’, ‘The Collector Today’, and ‘Adult Literacy in India’.

Ranjan retired while serving as the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh. Soon, he turned into a prolific author, a thought leader and an acclaimed B-school professor.
