After the culmination of the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh 2025, that witnessed a congregation of 660+ million pilgrims, the Uttar Pradesh government has announced to develop the reverred ‘Sangam’ spot for year-round global tourism.

Sangam is meeting point of pious Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati rivers in the holy city of Prayagraj, which was earlier known as Allahabad.

Devout Hindus consider a holy dip at the Sangam redeems them from sins and worldly sufferings. It is also considered to be a pilgrimage for Hindus.

The 45-day Maha Kumbh, which started on January 13, culminated on February 26 on the occasion of Shivratri festival.

The massive turnout from across the globe has prompted the Yogi Adityanath government to draft a roadmap for the Sangam area post-Maha Kumbh.

Considering the steady influx of devotees, the administration has initiated plans to revamp Sangam and its surroundings with enhanced facilities.

According to ADM Mela area Vivek Chaturvedi, the infrastructure established during Maha Kumbh will remain intact until the next Ardh Kumbh in 2031.

“Facilities such as lighting, water ATMs, checkered walkways, parking areas, police presence, mobile toilets, changing rooms, and more will continue to serve devotees,” he added.

Additionally, round-the-clock services, including taxi facilities and food courts, will be introduced, supported by a fresh budget allocation.

There are plans to introduce regular ‘aarti’ ceremonies at concrete ghats, inspired by the tradition at Varanasi’s ghats, to enrich the spiritual experience for devotees further.

Notably, the grand display of faith at Prayagraj’s Maha Kumbh shapes a powerful triangle of spiritual tourism with Kumbh City, Ayodhya and Kashi.
