The Prayagraj Maha Kumbh 2025 is estimated to generate an economy of Rs 2 trillion, which translates to more than US$23 billion at the prevailing forex rate.

Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said over 400 million pilgrims and devotees were expected to congregate in Prayagraj during 45 days of the Maha Kumbh Mela from January 13 to February 26, 2025.

Speaking at ‘Divine Uttar Pradesh: The Must Visit Sacred Journey’ conclave organised by a private media organisation in Lucknow recently, he waxed eloquent on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring the nation to proudly embrace its culture and heritage.

He claimed while the Kumbh Mela 2019 generated an economy of Rs 1.2 trillion, the Maha Kumbh 2025 with its estimated footfall of over 400 million will generate Rs 2 trillion for the domestic economy.

Yogi noted owing to the proactive tourism and heritage promotion steps taken by the Centre and his government in UP, the religious tourism had witnessed a significant uptick.

More than 160 million devotees visited the reverred Kashi Vishwanath Dham in Varanasi in 2024, while 135.5 million devotees visited the temple town of Ayodhya from January to September 2024, he added.

The CM underlined the Maha Kumbh 2025 will further elevate India’s ancient cultural and religious traditions to global levels.
