For speedier socioeconomic development, the Uttar Pradesh government will develop industrial corridors flanking expressway projects at an estimated cost of Rs 7,000 crore.
UP Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) will pilot these industrial centres along 5 expressways viz. Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Gorakhpur Link Expressway and Ganga Expressway.
So far, 11 sites have been identified near Ganga Expressway, which traverses through 12 districts and spans an area of 1,522 hectares. The estimated expenditure on developing these industrial centres is roughly Rs 2,300 crore.
Similarly, 6 sites have been identified along Bundelkhand Expressway connecting 7 districts. They span 1,884 hectares and entail an expenditure of more than Rs 1,500 crore.
Five sites have been selected in 10 districts connected to Agra-Lucknow Expressway. The total area and estimated expenditure is 532 hectares and Rs 650 crore respectively.
Meanwhile, 5 places have been identified for the industrial corridors near Purvanchal Expressway which connects 9 districts. The proposed area is 1,586 hectares with the estimated expenditure pegged at Rs 2,300 crore.
Likewise, 2 sites have been identified for Gorakhpur Link Expressway. They span 345 hectares and entail expenditure of Rs 320 crore.
This way, more than 30 sites have been identified with a total area exceeding 5,800 hectares. All 108 villages associated with these 30 sites have been notified by the state government.
Meanwhile, Rs 200 crore has additionally been released to the respective 6 District Magistrates for land purchase.
An order for releasing Rs 1,500 crore on the lines of Bundelkhand Industrial Development Authority (BIDA) has also been issued.
UP has the highest number of expressways in India. Currently Purvanchal Expressway, Bundelkhand Expressway, Agra-Lucknow Expressway, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Meerut-Delhi Expressway and Yamuna Expressway are operational in the state.

Additionally, construction is progressing on Gorakhpur Link Expressway, Ballia Link Expressway, Ganga Expressway, Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway, Delhi-Saharanpur-Dehradun Expressway, Ghaziabad-Kanpur Expressway and Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway.
