Despite pandemic, Uttar Pradesh has logged 31 percent growth in merchandise exports to nearly Rs 1.26 trillion in the current financial year 2021-22.

According to UP additional chief secretary (MSME and export promotion) Navneet Sehgal, the exports of Rs 1.26 trillion pertained to the first 10 months (Apr-Jan) of the current fiscal.

“The feat has been achieved due to efficient management and provisioning facilities for the state exporters,” he added.

Since data of Feb-Mar 2022 is still being collated, the total exports volume in 2021-22 is expected to touch Rs 1.50 trillion, which would translate into a year-on-year growth of more than 55 percent for the state.

While, UP ranks among the top five states in exports, it is the leading exporter among all the landlocked states in India.

Last year, UP had logged exports worth about Rs 96,000 crore. Currently, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu are India’s top exporters, followed by UP.

In the next three years, the state is targetting to achieve merchandise exports worth Rs 3 trillion.

Sehgal said a comprehensive export plan was formulated and a close coordination was forged with the customs to promote exports.

The state government fostered harmony with the Indian embassies in major export destinations. The policy of allowing industries to operate during pandemic also bore desired results for the state export segment.

Moreover, the state formulated district level export plans and worked towards developing each of the 75 districts as individual export hubs.

Besides, 100 products, including leather goods, sports goods, chemicals, textiles and handicrafts, spanning 15 sectors were identified for export promotion and specific action plan put into action to optimise the results.
