Ahead of the crucial 2022 Uttar Pradesh polls, the state traders on Thursday released a charter of demands for inclusion in the respective election manifestos of major political parties in fray.

Among the top demands is the framing of an ecommerce policy in UP to protect the interests of small traders and retailers.

The charter released by the Adarsh Vyapar Mandal (AVM) here demanded the parties vying for victory at the hustings should promise to constitute a committee comprising traders’ representatives to frame an ecommerce policy if they come to power.

The traders alleged the foreign ecommerce majors were blatantly violating Indian laws and that a legislation was imperative to regulate these firms and to ensure adhere to local laws.

AVM state president Sanjay Gupta suggested an indigenous ecommerce portal should be developed to promote Indian retailers at either the government level or under the public private partnership (PPP) model.

“The portal should only act as a market place and not indulge in selling or promoting goods and merchandise,” he said adding the government should fund the operation of the web portal.

Besides, the traders have demanded the political parties should promise to constitute a traders policy commission to further the interests of traders. “Another GST consultative committee should also be constituted in the larger interests of the traders and the domestic retail sector,” he noted.

The other demands pertain to various sops and social security measures for traders.
