Lucknow has been awarded a mega Rs 1,200 crore Textile Park, which will create tens of thousands of fresh jobs and spur socioeconomic development in Uttar Pradesh.

The Centre has approved setting up of ‘PM Mitra’ (Prime Minister Mega Integrated Textile Region and Apparel) Park in seven states, including UP.

The UP project will be developed under the public private partnership (PPP) model. The land will be made available for free to the state handloom and textile department for the project.

The state is expecting total investment of Rs 10,000 crore in the UP Textile Park, which would be spread over 1,000 acres and generate 300,000 direct and indirect employment opportunities.

It will create and sustain the entire textile manufacturing and marketing value chain viz. spinning, weaving, dyeing and printing and garment manufacturing, and thus prove to be a boon for artisans, weavers and handicraftsmen of UP.

UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath took to Twitter complementing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his flagship resolutions of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Make for the world’. “The Park will give a new identity to the textile industry of UP.”

The government will form a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) ‘Sant Kabir PM Mitra Textile & Apparel Park Limited’ for the ambitious project. A paid up capital of Rs 10 crore has been arranged with the state and central government share equity of 51 percent and 49 percent respectively.

The UP additional chief secretary, department of handloom and textiles, will be appointed as the CEO, while the union secretary, ministry of textile, will be the chairman.

Meanwhile, the Yogi government will spend Rs 700 crore to strengthen the textile industry, for which the UP Textile and Garmenting Policy 2022 has been promulgated.

UP has made a provision of Rs 175 crore under the policy, while a provision of Rs 345 crore has been made for providing subsidised electricity to powerloom weavers apart from Rs 20 crore for Chief Minister Power Loom Industry Development Scheme and Rs 10 crore for Chief Minister Weaver Solar Energy Scheme.
