The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur has been mandated to shortlist Indian startups to represent the country at an upcoming ASEAN fest in Indonesia.

The Startup Incubation & Innovation Centre (SIIC), the technology business incubator at IIT Kanpur, has been anointed as the lead coordinator from India at the ‘ASEAN-India Startup Festival 2022’ to be organised during 27-30 October.

The event, which will mark the 30th anniversary of the ASEAN – India Partnership, is supported by the ASEAN India S&T Development Fund (AISTDF), Department of Science & Technology, Government of India.

The event aims at strengthening the collaboration between ASEAN and India in the areas of science and technology. Details are available at https://siicincubator.com/IndoAsean.php.

As the lead coordinator, IIT Kanpur has invited Indian startups to be a part of the fest. A total of 30 Indian startups will be shortlisted to join the Indian delegation at this forum.

“India is emerging as a global leader in the startup and innovation landscape. We are proud that IIT Kanpur’s incubation ecosystem is able to share its learning not only with new incubators from India but also from ASEAN nations,” Institute director Prof Abhay Karandikar said.

The ASEAN-India Startup Festival is being organised in conjunction with the Indonesia Research and Innovation Expo (INA-RIE) by the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia.

Prof Ankush Sharma, Professor-in-charge, Innovation and Incubation, IIT Kanpur, said the startup ecosystem at IIT Kanpur has been in action for two decades.

The festival will offer Indian startups an opportunity to connect with businesses and investors from the international arena and strengthen cross-border ties with the ASEAN countries.

The startups will also get a chance to participate in the ‘Pitch Battle’ and win cash prize of up to US$ 7,500.

Meanwhile, SIIC IIT Kanpur has started the application process to shortlist the Indian startup pool. The call for applications is open till Sep 12, while the startups will be shortlisted based on a 2-round evaluation process.
