We all have fond memories about our school times regardless of the connotation about discipline and punishments!
Now, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath has mandated school like discipline roadmap for senior government officials.
The diktat pertains to strict adherence to office timings, lunch hours and disposing of files within three days by implementing a citizen charter in every government office.
This comes in about three weeks of becoming the chief minister of UP for a second consecutive term.
In his meetings with top UP bureaucrats and department heads, Yogi has underlined that government officials and employees should report for duty at stipulated time. He also warned of strict action against late comers and slackness in discharging official tasks.
Moreover, he has ordered for fixing half an hour for lunch so that public is not inconvenienced or have to wait inordinately when they visit government offices for redress of grievances.
The officials have been asked to ensure files are disposed of within three days so as to expedite the speed of governance. The officials have been directed to conduct surprise inspections in the field for getting firsthand information about the efficacy of state policies, and taking necessary actions if required.
All these measures are aimed at improving the government work culture as well as send a positive message to the people about the seriousness of the Yogi Adityanath government 2.0 to fulfill its basket of pre-poll planks.
Since, the UP government is working on a roadmap to bolster the state’s economy to the level of a trillion dollars by 2027, the CM has started exhibiting earnestness in the ambitious vision, and wants the government machinery to align with the overarching theme.
Economist and political commentator Prof A P Tiwari said the fresh directives would have a positive multiplier effect on government officials, while it will also empower the people that no less than the CM is concerned about their sundry issues.

Interestingly, Adityanath after becoming the CM for the first time in March 2017 had assumed a similar tough stance against apathy and slackness by government officials and employees. In fact, he had then stated those officials who were prepared to work for 18-20 hours a day should stay while others could hang their boots.
