Move over shopping malls and hypermarkets, a mega ‘Agri Mall’ dedicated to farm produce and allied products will soon fill the Lucknow skyline.

The proposed 7-storey mall in the up-market Gomtinagar area of Lucknow would be spread over an area of 8,000 sq mt.

‘Agri Mall’ is aimed at facilitating the state farmers get a fair price. It will also aid in the proper branding of farm produce and foster the state’s farm retail ecosystem.

The mall would feature retail outlets for quality fruits, vegetables and different variety of food grains.

According to UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath, a slew of policy initiatives are being taken to promote agriculture and food processing, and encouraging natural farming. Agri Mall is a step in the same direction.

Meanwhile, he ordered for establishing testing labs at all divisional headquarters for verification of organic and natural products. A tissue culture laboratory will be opened in Ayodhya.

These decisions were taken yesterday at the 166th meeting of the Board of Directors of the State Agricultural Produce Market Council (Mandi Parishad) held under the chairmanship of the CM.

In the current financial year 2022-23 from April to November, the Mandi Parishad earned more than Rs 972 crore. It is targetting to clock total revenue of Rs 1,500 crore in the current fiscal year.

He directed for effecting necessary amendments in the Mandi Rules for obtaining licence for e-auction of agricultural produce or for digital platform service provider.

Yogi stressed the participation of private sector will offer new market avenues to farmers and increase the income of Mandi Parishad as well.
